I have been fishing
for Striped Bass since 1980. I have fished the New England waters in search for my trophy. Since then, I have fished mostly the
New York boundaries (Long Island,
Atlantic
Beach,
City
Island,
Orchid Beach, Montauk
Point, Far Rockaway,
Jones Beach and other unnamed areas) and mostly fished from the surf. On some occasion I may
venture on a few party boats from
City
Island but my greatest enjoyment was when I was invited to Montauk Point
on my friend’s 36’ boat. It was a joy to remember, should I say speechless. After moving to
New Jersey in 1989, I started to fresh water fish with my father-in-law. We have fish all the lakes and river in
the Burlington
County areas. We
started to venture to the shore about several times a year to continue my search for Striped Bass but the drive alone was
enough and we started to decrease our trip and stay close to home. In 1995 I came upon a friend who was already fishing in
the Delaware River for Striped Bass, and he let me know that I do not have to drive that far for
my trophy. In fact I only have to drive 10 minutes from my home and can always return home for any emergency with no problem.
I was so ecstatic that I got my gear and head out to the
Burlington
Water Front. As I started to fish I had to study the difference between fresh water and salt water Striped Bass. I was pleased
as some of the old timers took the time to guide me to my venture. After several years, I have notice that the Delaware River continue to show a great number of trophy bass that can be access without a boat. I continue to fish along the Delaware River to this day and enjoy the excitement of catching and releasing a Striped Bass.
I would again like to
thank all of those who took the time to guide and encourage me on my venture. Ron M.
